| The American Association of Orthopaedic
Surgeons has issued new guidelines for patients that have had joint
replacements. This does not apply to pins, screws, etc, but only to
those with joint replacements of the hip, knee, jaw, etc.
All patients having a joint replacement,
regardless of when placed, is recommended to have antibiotics one hour prior
to dental care. The recommendations issued cover just about all
dental care visits.
If you have had a joint replacement,
contact us prior to your appointment. Your orthopaedic surgeon should
provide you with appropriate antibiotic coverage.
Oleske Family Dental has the best interests
of our patients at heart. We follow the current guidelines.
This is a big change, as previously it was only recommended to have
antibiotics the first two years after surgery. Please assist us
in conforming to these new guidelines. |
