| Composites: Composites give us the ability to restore your
teeth to there natural form and beauty. Composites are actually made of a
specialized resin that can be placed into your tooth and hardened with a
light. Today's composites exhibit strength and translucence similar to
natural enamel.
There are many types of composites and many
manufacturers. We use only the best, clinically proven materials to
restore your teeth. We attend hours of continuing education and read
hundreds of journals each year to provide our patients with the best
restorations possible.
Our office no longer places "silver
fillings", otherwise known as mercury-amalgam restorations. These
silver fillings have been around since the late 1800's, without much
improvement. To be properly placed, excess tooth structure has to be
removed to hold them in, as the only thing holding them in your tooth is the
shape of the cavity. This can weaken the tooth much more then the
conservative preparation used to place composites. In addition, bacteria
can seep in between the filling and the tooth. This is called microleakage
and is the number one cause of failed silver fillings.
Composites are "bonded" to the tooth
structure. Technology has advanced to allow this bond to adhere the
filling to the tooth so strongly that microleakage is virtually
eliminated. We believe, that when properly placed, composites allow us to
provide a much better restoration then silver fillings.
